Happy Hour: Damn Son!

4 mint leaves
2 dashes orange bitters
3/4oz lime juice
1/2oz simple syrup
1oz gin
1 1/2oz white rum

Muddle mint in shaker, add everything else and shake with ice, strain into coupe glass. Lime garnish. I still have leftover mint simple syrup, so I used that and left out the muddled mint. This recipe made enough for TWO drinks - yay!

I am still working my way through this list posted by NY Mag back in May (got a few more on the horizon too - as soon as I grab some ingredients!). I’ve been meaning to grab a drink from Cienfuegos in the East Village, but just haven’t had the opportunity yet. Damn Son! is one of their creations, so it’s almost like I’ve been there now.

Basically, this drink is a more sophisticated and concentrated mojito. The added gin and orange bitters give the cocktail an added layer of refinement. It goes down verrrrry smoothly, and it’s easy to just gulp it down. Be careful - there is a lot of booze up in here!

Please note my crappy lime wheel. I am incapable of slicing them evenly, so this one looked a mess. Instead of hanging it off the side of the drink, I am disguising it by letting it float. Fake it til you make it, kids!
