Happy Hour: The Flamingo
- 1 oz raspberry syrup
- 1 oz orange juice
- 2 oz gin
- lime twist
Shake the raspberry syrup, OJ and gin, then strain into rocks glass. Garnish with a twist of lime.
I am halfway through a 6-day stay at my parents’ for xmas. Boy, if I ever needed a drink, now is the time! I basically improvised something simple based on what they had on hand. Knowing that I wanted to have a gin base and use the fresh Florida oranges that are in the house, I came up with a recipe online called the ‘hot college girl’ (um, thanks but no thanks), only it called for lemon. I switched out the lemon for orange and then soured it up with a squeeze of lime. Voila!
This drink is super easy to throw back, but I didn’t feel it did much justice to the ingredients we used. While everything was fresh and yummy on their own, together they tasted like a premixed cocktail you’d get on spring break. But, it’ll definitely do the trick, and that’s all I can ask for when 10 of the last 12 hours have been filled with stressing out about last-minute gifts and running all over town.
