We’re finally going to be back in NYC next weekend, and are starting to plan our eating sched. We have a bunch of old faves that we’ll be hitting up, but would love some rec’s for new lunch/dinner spots that have opened in the last year that can’t be missed (bar suggestions also welcome!).
Where should we eat/drink?
Getting my Valentine’s Day on with homemade chocolate-covered strawberries! This cost about $6 to make vs $24 for the pre-packaged ones from Von’s (seriously, wtf?).
And it only take about 15 mins. Oh yeaaaaahhhh
A lot of ish on this list is just cheating because they put diamond jewelry in the food (ew!).
I got y’all beat: Here’s the most expensive ham sandwich (it comes with a side of “Keys to a Mansion in Maui” and is worth $20,000,005):

Everyone loves a gimmick.
Prepping to make rum balls tomorrow. I really ought to make a better recipe card for them - I’ve been using this one since about 2004
For those playing along at home, here’s how to decipher my shorthand:
* VW = Vanilla Wafers (ok, that should be Nilla Wafers). You basically want these as fine as you can get ‘em. I put them through the food processor.
* Fruit = Dried Fruit Bits like these. Of course you can buy bigger dried pieces and chop them up too. I always soak them in the rum before mixing them in.
*Confectioners = confectioners sugar
Note on the walnuts: chop ‘em to small pieces. I think the rest is pretty much easy to understand. Mix all the ingredients together and shape them into 1-inch balls. Roll through powdered sugar and let sit for a couple hours. Ideally give it enough time for the alcohol to dissipate before you eat them (I never can wait through!)
Merry Christmas from my drunkard family to yours!
Off to a BBQ with a pretty darn tasty bowl of pasta salad!
I cheated and used some pre-cooked seasoned chicken strips. I cut them up, added celery, red onion and Miracle Whip and then tossed it all into a bowl of chilled pasta. Let’s dig in!

Peaches right now are AMAZING! I don’t think I had one good peach during the 5 years I was in NY, so I am seriously making up for lost time this summer.
It’s restaurant week in LA, and I’d love to try something new and awesome. Any suggestions for where to start?
It’s like 90 degrees in the house today, but I had 2 overripe bananas that were on their way out. Naturally, I had to make banana bread.
The house smells GREAT and the bread tastes AWESOME!
NO REGRETS
PS - I used Martha’s recipe, because you don’t mess with perfection
I feel like an a-hole for saying this, but I had better meals in 3 days in Flagstaff than I’ve had in 3 months in Los Angeles.
From the $10 BBQ dinner at Satchmo’s to the exponentially more expensive (but still within reason) dinner at Tinderbox Kitchen, I was very impressed by this tiny mountain town.
Now if only the restaurants there would stay open later than 9/10pm…
I have a feeling this is going to go down as one of the best ideas I’ve had in a while.
